To Enforce or Not to Enforce, That Is the Question
Maryland is one of the most abortion-friendly states in the union, but it now has a problem. Seems notorious late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart moved there a couple of years ago, and has taken to ignoring state laws on disposal of medical waste and patient record privacy. According to LifeNews:
Between August, 2011, and May, 2012, local pro-life advocates working in conjunction with Operation Rescue inspected trash generated by Germantown Reproductive Health Services. A report OR released today indicated the trash included documents containing private patient information, including photocopies of patient drivers licenses, information about birth control prescriptions, and detailed information about a 15 week abortion for which the patient was charged $2,200.
The trash also contained bloody refuse including bloody sanitary napkins and blue pads, some of which contained blood clots and possible human fetal remains. And it contained partially-used bottles of IV drugs that are classified as controlled substances and other drugs.
“In light of new clinic regulations that are set to go into effect on July 23, we are asking the Maryland Board of Physicians and the Department of Health to fully investigate Carhart’s dumping practices at Germantown Reproductive Health Services and take whatever disciplinary action is necessary to protect the public,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-life Nation.
Maryland now faces this dilemma: ignore Carhart’s dumping and proclaim state law meaningless, or enforce the law at the behest of beyond-the-pale Operation Rescue.
So which is more likely to happen first: the latter, or me winning the Powerball lottery without buying a ticket?

As we saw in the case of Kermit Gosnell in PA, authorities will only step into an abortion mill’s operations when the goings-on make a slaughterhouse look like the Mayo Clinic.

Prosecute operation rescue for discovering the problem

I’m sure they will, Paul. Something about invasion of privacy or whatever.

There is no excuse for this behavior in an alleged medical facility. The State Board needs to investigate as well as licensing power in the state.
At 2200.00 for an abortion, the doctor can afford a paper shredder and proper handling of biological waste and drugs.
Maryland has no choice. To fail to investigate and discipline is to approve the behavior which violates medical norms.

Laws are really there to prosecute conservatives and conservative causes. Laws that potentially go after causes the left favors are ALWAYS option to enforce.
Even if they do “prosecute” they’ll plea it down to a littering penalty. The good doctor will pay a $25 fine and get on with his practice.

If I was in favor of abortion I would be very angry that a medical facility was so slipshod not only with medical waste (not referring to any fetal remains here) but with confidential patient information. Proper handling of these items are to be expected of any medical facility.
But since abortion is not about health the anger will get turned on OR and they will be the bad guys in this and no correction of the clinic will be forthcoming.

I thought this was the sort of “backyard abortionist” operation that the brave new world of abortion-on-demand was supposed to eliminate?
Such careless behaviour with regard to hygeine doesn’t happen in isolation - if its been discovered once, Carhart will keep doing it. The end result is only a matter of time.
The Maryland authorities can move in now, or they can do it in future when some girl dies of septicemia in an alley. It only needs one incident like that and the press can turn into ravening wolves…

TOTALLY agree with #4. There is no excuse for this ‘behavior’ by an M.D. Prosecute this murder to the fullest extent of the law! At the very least, yank his license.
MDs do lose their license to practice medicine. Maryland authorities can and should act. What will happen is anyone’s guess but they should prosecute.
