If you’re feeling chewed up by the heretics, GOOD!

I know I’m treading on Fischler’s Protestant turf here, but this was just too good to pass up:

Ministers of the Word, therefore, if they would be counted faithful and prudent on the Day of Christ, ought to be very sure that St. Paul did not speak empty words or prophesy of a thing of nought, when he said: ‘There must be heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.’ Let the minister of Christ know, I say, that as long as he preaches Christ purely, there will be no lack of perverse persons, even among our own people, who will make it their business to cause trouble in the Church. And he may comfort himself with the thought that there is no peace between Christ and Belial, or between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the Serpent. Indeed, he may rejoice in the trouble he is caused by sects and the constant succession of seditious spirits. For this is our glory, the testimony of our conscience that we are found standing and fighting on the side of the Seed of the woman against the seed of the Serpent. Let him bite our heel and never cease biting; we for our part will not cease to crush his head through Christ, the first to crush it, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Martin Luther, Preface to His Lectures on Galatians

And the problem is we don’t come right out and denounce them as heretics because as Christians we have to be polite and promote “unity.”  And because of a phony lie spread by the Devil that we will show unbelievers “we are Christians by our love,” even though Scripture expressly says we are to expel such people from the fellowship.

So, what might have happened if Spong et al were tossed out of TEC on their heads?  Would TEC still be Orthodox?

I frankly think you have to fight this war on many fronts:
1.  Prayer - and lots of it
2.  Tossing liberal professors in seminary
3.  Tossing Bishops and/or Priests who teach or bless heresy

Where you find evil and heresy - DEAL WITH IT RIGHT THEN!  Confront it, and toss ‘em out if they won’t straighten up.  For crying out loud, they took an oath that they are breaking!

TEC’s leadership and Penn State have a lot in common - knowingly turning a blind eye to perverse evil.  Barring a quick turnaround, TEC has unfortunately been sentenced to the death penalty.

The Apostle Paul gave us specific procedures to deal with this.  If we had followed them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

I’ll get over it, Tim. Besides, I understand that Luther had some small influence on the Anglican tradition.  wink

Didn’t Luther compose that great Anglican hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is our God”? (sorry, but in all my years on SF, have never figured out how to do the winking smiley)

To get back to the serious side of this:
“Let him bite our heel and never cease biting; we for our part will not cease to crush his head through Christ, the first to crush it, who is blessed for ever.”

I daresay, TF+, that you and other faithful priests in TEC by now need bandaids and antivenom for your heels, with all that serpent crushing.  Keep up the good work.

B Hunter at #2, good point about the need to fight these things on many fronts.

Those who remain within TEC are in a 2 Chronicles 20 season.  God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.
God inhabits the praises of His people.  The more praise, the stronger the Presence.  Pick up your hymnal every day, and praise God!
