A Wonderful Rendition of the Star Spangled Banner

I’ll come clean - I just love your national anthem. It has to be one of the best there is - music & lyrics.
And I didn’t even know there were multiple verses. But this makes the surprise of learning that all the more joyous…

Most Americans don’t know all the lyrics.  Said every Canadian I’ve ever met.  :(

And the last two words of the national anthem aren’t: “Play ball!” smile

We had to memorize and frequently sing the entire anthem at the Air Force Academy.  I’m wondering how long it will be before the PC police change that to “respect the diversity” of religious views.

We memorized and sang all 4 verses in the LCMS school I attended when I was growing up.  That was a bit ago…I’m 76.  I have the text and music in my old 1913 Scott, Foresman & Co, THE LYRIC MUSIC SERIES: Third Reader.

Seems strange to me that so many people find the words “too violent” and will not consent to sing it.

#2 - and if you’re in Bawlmer, where it was written, you can go deaf temporarily by the fans hollering the second “O” (say does that star-spangled banner yet wave…) at the start of Orioles baseball games.

How many people remember, or in the case of kids, even know to salute or put right hand over heart when it’s sung?  or sing it along w/ the performer?

I first heard the other verses sung during a program commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.  Sandi Patty did an outstanding job of it.  Without looking it up, I think it was about 1987.

Yes, most of those verses are now politically incorrect.  I was visiting friends “Up nawth” on the july4 parade at a Christian camp.  The parade ended around the flag pole where I was back on about the third row.  They started the National Anthem..  I looked forward and saw two guys talking and laughing with theior hats on.  I grumbled in a low voice when it was finished that “Someone needs to squar up those two guys.”  Two middle aged men turned back to me and my eyes got wide as they said, “look sir, we are not vetrans but you are 100% correct.  I really enjoyed the rest of the day.
